Academic Writing (3) summarising and paraphrasing

As two important aspects of academic writing --summarising and paraphrasing, we need to master differenrt skills to make it.

In my opinion, both of the two skills are based on understanding the overall meaning of your reference, as well as using your own words to express the idea you get.

On the other hand, there are some discrepancies between summarising and paraphrasing. For summarising, using as less words as possible to get the main point is the chief aim for us, since we usually refer to so many different books involved in our research area in the MA stage, and it is not necessary to put all detailed information in it. With respect to paraphrasing, writing the idea you refer to in your own word should be draw attention, moreove, keeping the same meaning is also important, which is different from summarising.

A day in oxford

It is a small ancient city indeed, with so much time-honored architecture, oxford show a classical pucture as I've seen in the classical oil painting. I like the quiet town in the morning without so many tourists, it is small wonder that as a famous tourist attraction, there must be a number of people coming here for travel. Any way, it's an attractive scenic spot, and a right place, which have various old buildings and parks, for students to study here.

Amazing day~

A normal friday became so amazing totally because of my carelessness.

After one-day worried about my stuff, and spent almost two hours in finding my lost stuff, it remind me to be calm and think back the two place I've been, tube station and bank. Actually, I lost it in tube station when I top up my oyster card,,,according to the efficient of the staff in station , I have to get my lost file back from barker street which is far from E&C, my college, of course, I have to pay the price for my bad memory, however, the price is beyond my imagination. Beside the fee for transport, I have to pay for geting back the losed thing! I don't know about the regulation before, which make me a little confused, because there is no any charge for recover the property in china. Maybe that's so called cultural difference!

Once again, It seems I shouldn't forgive myself, however, what can I do next time? No,do forbid next time!! BE MORE CAREFUL!!

Academic Writing (2) connective 1

A good piece of writing can not go with out cohesion, which based on many appropriate connectives.

Usually, connectives can be divided into three main groups of and, or, but. Today, I want to present my summarization of one type of "and" group, that is the expression of listing.

Generally speaking, as for enumeration, we tend to use "first/firstly/first and foremost/first and most importantly,.... furthermore/secondly,....finally/thirdly,.....above all/last but not the least" also, it can be used by "to begin/start with,....in the second place/next,....moreover/then/afterward,...and to conclude/lastly/finally,...".

In respect to addition, if you want to make reinforcement , it can be used by "also/again/furthermore/moreover/what is more/then/in addition/besides/above all/as well(as)..." On the other side, if you want to express the meaning of equation, probabl, you can use"equally/likewise/similarly/correspondinglly/in the same way..."

My view on advertisement

To my mind, advertisement just a means to promote some products, or making people to pursuit the goods they want to sell. However, it no matter wether we admit or not, the ubiquity of advertisement exert a inevident influence on our daily life.

Almost all our daily life cannot go without advertisement. Billboard, newspaper, magazine, TV screen...With so many ways, we contact it readily, include the complex content in it, which made us feel ambivalent, on one hand, we can't reject it as our pleasure, on the other hand, it beset us to some extent. So, that's why we must have our own opinion on it, and distinguish it by oursleves. Based on that, there will be a different value on advertisement.

These days, our discussion centred around academic writing, which we will come across and apply in practice in the main course. So, we must have a clear recognition of academic writing.

Academic writing is a particular kind of writing that can be recognised by its style. It is mainly formal, impersonal, and objective, other distinctive features will depend upon the specific types of academic writing. These include essays, research reports and articles, case studies, survey, dissertations, theses,and examination papers. In most of these the writer is expect to include reference to other writing or research.

A two-tier time socity

Usually, we define a two-tier time socity is a society whit the money-rich, time-poor on one level, and the money-poor, time-rich on the other level.

For keeping up with the fast pace of life, people who want to have a good state in society have to work longer and longer today, and struggle to fit more and more into every day. No one can say the way of living is good or bad, just depend on individual. However, it doesn't matter that which way you would like to make a living, one constant is must be drawed attention, cherishing the time you own now~ even if you just want a simple live, you can't waste any minutes, which can be seen as your fortune, because every one who waste it will be pay it back at last.

Some days ago, because of my homesick, I immersed myself in chatting whit my friends and family, for which, I regret soon, why I come here? Just for a new place and keep on chatting?

The first thing I have to get over is not homesick but english~~~~~

My explanations of 'education'

The process by which you can gain knowledge, skills from being tought, at the same time, shaping values gradually in a wild range of forms, for instance, teaching, schooling, training, instruction, tuition, tutelage, edification, tutoring, cultivation, upbringing, indoctrination, drilling, learning, lore, knowledge, information, erudition...

why!!

WHY CAN'T ALL HUMANBEINGS ENJOY PEACE IN THE SAME PLACE??????WHY?

Actually speaking, I'm so sad today, because I've found the bad news from my homeland, violence unleashed in Urumqi last night, although I'm not in china, whit the photograph, video, I also feel miserable about these news.....

I can't help calling my mum and ask why, she told me it's just a part thing of the world, and I can't do anything to change it ....but...when I thinking about some people die, some people can never see their family, some one get into affliction to death....

What can I do ?....Why can't be a peace world ?....Hopefully, every bad news just a nightmare，it haven't happen , never!

This is the second weekend from I came to here, except accomopanying my friend to fay for the rent fee and walk for a stroll in a market, I almost never leave room, whit some books I want to read, however it seems I still can't understand it clearly, why? language!! It's the big problem, but I know it's a time-consuming mission, so, just try my best step by step, of course, master the rhythm of the step~don't stop!!

Two weeks～

It has been two weeks from I left my homeland for here, I'm confused which stage of 'culture shock' I'm in now, but I believe I can be used to the new place soon, and I have to, because there 're lots of thing waiting for me to do~
